Shopaholic's Diary : Shopping spree at Leh

Hi guys
In this post I will be sharing with you my shopping experience and the stuff I got from Leh. Apart from the tranquility of Ladakh which attracted me the most was the colourful market of Leh. Leh has a decent market where you can enjoy shopping for souvenirs and curios. We spared last day evening of our trip for shopping. I was excited to explore the Leh market.

If you want to do a winter shopping, there are many options for you ranging from Pashmina shawls, stoles, hand made sweaters, woolen scarfs, caps, socks of different varieties and prices. They were also selling the shawls made up of sheep wool and Yak wool but I was not sure about authenticity of those shawls. Frankly, I didn't like the shawls made from Yak's wool as they were dull.

Leh market overflow with handicrafts items including prayer wheels, panitings, singing bowls, prayer flags, masks and many other unique souvenirs that can be purchased. Leh's customised T-shirts with interesting one liners are also very popular.

Leh market is flooded with turquoise and silver jewelries which are tribal and unique. Personally, I am very fond of jewelries. You can find these jewelries from big shops to street vendors.

After wandering around in Leh market I ended up buying a turquoise necklace, prayer flags, Prayer wheels, Buddha showpiece, fridge magnets and two cutest kung fu posing showpieces.

Beautiful turquoise necklace
When I saw this neck piece, I was like I want this. There is beautiful amalgamation of orange beads, turquoise beads with metal rings in this necklace. One thing I will suggest you is to polish your bargaining skills before visiting Leh. Bargaining is a huge task in Leh and I am not good at it. You will find most of the things expensive in the market and even if you bargain some of the vendors are so stubborn they just stick to their prices. So, try hard guys.

Showpieces posing  Kung Fu
Next favourite buy of this trip are these super cute showpieces posing Kung Fu. There were many showpieces posing different poses of  Kung Fu. The same souvenir I saw in Thiksey monastery souvenir shop which was double the price of Leh market. It's wise to do shopping in Leh market as you can use your bargain skills here.

Prayer Wheels
Prayer Wheel

You will get variety of prayer wheels in the Leh market with one prayer wheel, two prayer wheel, depending upon your choices and your budget. These prayer wheels are hand made. Depending upon the cost of prayer wheel the finishing of the piece varies, higher the cost better will be its finishing. I got two prayer wheels as shown above.

Fridge Magnets
There is nothing better souvenir than a small piece of art with beautiful splash of colours which you can carry even in your small shirt's pocket. I am talking about fridge magnet, they remind you of the places whenever you see them on your fridge and refresh your memories. You can gift these to your family and friends. I got the above fridge magnets from a souvenir shop behind the Hall of Fame building in Leh.

Prayer Flags
You can see lots of colourful prayer flags blowing in wind throughout Ladakh region. Every colour in the prayer flag represent an element. Its good to get prayer flag as a gift. As far as my knowledge there are three types of prayer flags available in Ladakh one with large size with sacred text imprinted on them, medium size and small size with sacred word. I got three, one medium size and two small ones.

Buddha
Last but not the least I got this peaceful buddha for my living room. From a long time I was trying to find a buddha and what will be a better place to find a buddha showpiece in his land of buddha. There are different varieties in the market depending on individual preferences.

This was all what I got from Leh. I hope it will give you a idea what you will like to buy on your trip to Leh.
